This report presents the PBO’s response to a request by the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs to conduct research and comparative analysis on the Estimates of the Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs and the Department of Indigenous Services Canada.

Highlights

  • Over the 2015-2016 to 2022-2023 period there has been a significant increase in the amount of financial resources allocated to providing Indigenous services.

  • This increase in expenditure did not result in a commensurate increase in the ability of the organizations to achieve the targets that they had set for themselves.

  • Based on the qualitative review the ability of the organizations to achieve the targets that they have specified has declined.
